Meet Yoshi!

Last week I stopped off at a suite at The Westin Lighter Quay to have my hair “done” prior to an evening of Moet and Pamela Anderson, courtesy of Kate from Maxted Thomas PR and the team at Sebastian. There I met the wonderful – and incredibly serene given the madness of New Zealand Fashion Week – Yoshi Su, a stylist from Wellington salon Buoy who had flown up for the week. By all accounts Yoshi is a true visionary; he has only been working for the salon for six years and in a short period of time has accumulated a number of rather impressive accolades that surpasses his years in the industry. His many talents include being and an accomplished photographer and make-up artist, and all of Yoshi’s latest looks have had the Yoshi touch from hair make-up to even the photography and retouching! He’s represented New Zealand at Wella Trend Vision in Barcelona and in 2008 was New Zealand Catwalk Hairdresser of the Year, travelling to Salon International and working behind the scenes on shows for Jane Wild. As well as giving me a “do” that lasted long into the night, he also reassured me that my near obsessive application of Sebastian’s Whipped Crème light conditioning style whip was a step in the right direction, and introduced me to a few new tricks as well. Now if only he lived in Auckland, huh?
