Love it: Kiehl’s 160th Anniversary Musk EDT
I’ve been a long time fan of Kiehl’s beautiful Musk Lotion, which sadly isn’t available in New Zealand but bought by me in bulk every time that I travel where it is. A little retro whilst being thoroughly modern in style, every time I wear it I garner comments from near and far – it’s a seriously sexy scent.
I was super excited therefore to get my hands on a bottle of the legendary New York beauty brand’s 160th Anniversary Limited Edition Musk Eau de Toilette Spray, which is one of three products that make up the New York Heritage Collection. The oil – along with Ultra Facial Moisturizer and Calendula Toner – was chosen to celebrate the brand’s history due to the fact that it was an early offering that is still a customer favourite today, and they come with limited edition black and gold packaging inspired by Kiehl’s New York roots.
Reportedly developed in the 1920’s by a distant cousin - a Russian Prince! - of the founding family, Original Musk Oil was originally deemed “too sensual” for the times. Discovered in a vat in 1958 labelled “love potion”, Kiehl’s now-signature scent was reintroduced to their patrons in 1963 to a rapturous response.
Original Musk is, of course, a synthetic musk fragrance; it has “body” but it’s still a light version of musk — not heavy in the least. Kiehl’s lists Original Musk’s fragrance notes as bergamot nectar, orange blossom, lily, rose, ylang-ylang, neroli, tonka bean, white patchouli and musk, and it is a unisex, totally original scent.
If that sounds a little like you then I recommend you give this beautiful fragrance a whirl, and be ready for the deluge of questions in the vein of “wow, what fragrance are you wearing?” Marvellous stuff.
