All About: Dermalogica, International Women’s Day and FITE

Did you know that worldwide women own only 1 per cent of the world’s land, yet women’s hands produce 50 per cent of the world’s food?
Every 8th March, a huge volume of events are held throughout the world to celebrate International Women’s Day, a day of observance and recognition for women around the globe.
Behind the scenes throughout the year however, numerous organizations are working for the cause, including skincare brand Dermalogica’s global empowerment initiative - Financial Independence Through Entrepreneurship (FITE). Headed up by Dermalogica founder Jane Wurwand, FITE focuses on helping women gain access to microfinance capital by providing small loans to help them start or grow a business, and New Zealanders alone have so far funded 106 entrepreneurial women through FITE.
In some parts of the world women are more likely to be denied a loan by a bank and often face high levels of financial discrimination because of their gender.
One in six people who live in extreme poverty globally are women. They earn only 10 per cent of the world’s income but perform 66 per cent of the world’s work, and invest 90 per cent of their income into their families. That’s some stats, and definitely something to think about before you make another totally unnecessary purchase.
To make a difference, join FITE today at www.joinfite.org by either redeeming a FITE code from selected Dermalogica products (pictured above) to activate a USD$1 donation from Dermalogica, or by donating a microloan directly to FITE. Need new skincare? There couldn’t be a better time to check out one of the options above.
