My fave beauty look from MBFWA Day Two: By Johnny by M.A.C
“Tough boy beauty… with a boyish edge…”
So read the Face Chart “inspiration” quote by M.A.C Senior
Artist Amber D. for the By Johnny show, which took place on Day Two of MBFWA.
I went backstage to talk to the always-fabulous Miss Amber
prior to the show, where I found her calm, cool and collected and wearing –
gasp – a flat shoe! This is a woman I have seen sporting some of the most
vertiginous heels ever created with not a twinge of discomfort in evidence, but
clearly even she starts to feel the long days on her feet by day two. “It’s
okay, they’re Celine…” she says, which makes it all alright in my book.
The show was a hot topic during the week as the collection
is the first “serious” outing for baby designer Johnny Schembri, who only graduated
from high school in 2004 and completed an Advanced Diploma in Fashion Design in
2006. After graduating, Johnny started formulating his vision as to where he
wanted to steer his career in fashion and come 2009 he took the plunge and
launched the label by johnny in the young designer section of Rosemount Sydney
Fashion Festival.
A year later he received support from Peroni and Harpers
Bazaar after winning the Younger Designer of the Year Award, then a year later
he was a finalist on Foxtel’s Season 3 of Project Runway Australia. Huge!
Needless to say, the show was one hot ticket, and the
pressure intense for both the designer and his support team, hair and makeup
partners. The result was an incredibly polished collection, and as for the
makeup? To die for!
Skin was all about perfect prep, with Prep + Prime Moisture
Infusion, Fix + Spray and numerous other goodies massaged into the face along
with a covering of Face & Body Foundation and Strobe Liquid. Contouring was
expertly executed using Brown Scuplting Crème (a September 2012 release!) and
LadyBlush Cremeblend blush.
A beautiful, slightly washed out-looking eye was created
using Antiqued Gold Crème Color Base, Steamy and Carbon eye shadows and Blacktrack
Fluidline to define. Brows were also softly darkened with brown mascara and
then Fresh Brew and Fleshpot applied to the lip.
Just gorgeous, and totally wearable come the warmer months.
Adore.
