Style I love: Vera Wang

You’d probably have an easier time listing the celebrities who haven’t worn Vera Wang on their wedding day since the designer is so ubiquitous at bold weddings. The petite, seemingly ageless brunette is the gold standard in high-end bridalwear, worn by everyone from Jennifer Lopez to Chelsea Clinton with style and sass. She’s also a powerhouse entrepreneur who has grown a single bridal boutique into a fashion and lifestyle empire that spans a wide range of product segments — from engagement rings and ready-to-wear to dinner plates, sunglasses and cosmetics — at pricepoints that stretch from luxury to mass market.
“I wear many hats. I have to be a promoter, a designer, a costumer of movie stars and celebrities, and a businesswoman,” and Wang, who amazingly heads both the business and creative sides of the company. “When you throw all of that into one bag, it’s a rough day. I love it, though.”
While she may have started her career in true high society style with a bridal boutique in New York City’s The Carlyle hotel in 1990, today Wang oversees a lifestyle brand that includes a killer ready-to-wear collection and accessories lines that have the same edge and style as her always unique bridal creations. Her Spring 2017 RTW collection was one of my favourites of the past few years, a tailored, almost all black outing demonstrating incredible craftsmanship.” “I’m thinking of women’s strength,” she said of the collection, and that came across in highly constructed clothes with deliberate, unfussy feminine touches. The prevailing silhouette was short and sleek, with a skirt or shorts matched to a jacket with corset construction, often cropped and off the shoulder. In a word: breathtaking.
I would love to be able to buy Vera Wang ready-to-wear every season, but without the budget that affords that kind of general fabulousness I can still get my fix from many of her beautiful accessories lines. Vera Wang sunglasses are the perfect way to shield eyes from harmful UV rays whilst slaying on a daily basis, and with sunglasses a more than valid investment on the beauty front given their ability to slow down the progress of fine lines around the eyes I am all for owning a veritable wardrobe of them. The latest pair I have added to my arsenal is from Wang’s line and is called the Isabetta (see below). Its subtle Swarovski crystal detailing takes it a step above your usual plain black frame and it has become my absolute go-to this winter and then some.
I got mine from an authenticated site featuring some of the world’s most desirable brands at amazing prices, so if you are in the market for some new shades then I seriously recommend that you check them out here. Go forth and shop!
