Beauty news: YSL X ZOË KRAVITZ has landed
Back in 2017, the very clever team at YSL Beauté named the preternaturally stylish actor, musician and model Zoë Kravitz as their newest global makeup and fragrance ambassador. In the years since, Kravitz has become a muse for the brand and, apparently, vice versa, as Kravitz has taken her experience with YSL and turned it into her very own lipstick range: YSL Beauté x Zoë, which is on counter now.
A small but perfectly formed collection of just six shades, the The Big Little Lies star worked on each until they were absolutely perfect, and named them all after important people in her life.
"I think I just wanted to start simple and classic, and to me red and nudes are the lipsticks I go to the most,” she told Elle. “The idea behind this was creating shades that people can wear on a daily basis, not that you can't wear black or blue, or whatever every day, you can but I wanted to make sure there was something there for everybody."
Each lipstick dries down to either a matte or shimmery satin finish, and arrives in black glittery packaging, inspired by the packaging of Zoe's favourite perfume, YSL Black Opium (she is also the face of its campaign).
The actress had complete freedom to design whatever colours she wanted, but wanted to create a line that accurately represents the colours she uses on herself the most, and colours that look flattering on all skin tones. She extensively tested her shades on herself, her friends and family members first, and says she loves them all.
I haven’t had a chance to play with any shades from the collection myself, but love the sound - and the names - of the nudes first and foremost. The shimmery, soft-pink "Honey's Nude" is a nod to the nickname of her godmother, Cree Summer, whilst "Arlene's Nude" is a rosy hue with a satin sheen, named after her grandmother. The third, "Maris' Nude," is a warm brown shade with a matte finish named after another godmother. I also can’t get past mentioned “Wolf’s Red”, which is named after her brother Wolf, who shares a name with my son!
These babies are available now at selected Farmers, department stores and pharmacies, with an RRP of $76. I want them all!
