Beauty review: the new OLAPLEX No.7 Bonding Oil

When OLAPLEX first hit the beauty marketplace a few years ago now, it was an instant hit and immediate must have. Since then it has amassed a global following among industry insiders and celebrities alike, with celebrity colourist Tracey Cunningham an ambassador for the brand, and a fan base that includes Emma Stone, Drew Barrymore, Margot Robbie, Chrissy Teigen and Kim Kardashian.
The pioneering brand was the very first to create a bond repair and maintenance system, which was a godsend for everyone from blonde to afro hair types and everything in between. It made every colour easier on the hair all round, and quickly became an essential regular treatment both in salon and at home.
Fast forward to 2020 and the brand has launched the latest the addition to their take home haircare system - No.7 Bonding Oil. I was introduced to it over a treatment and blow wave session at inner central salon Colleen, where the amazing Lauren Gunn and her team were charged with revitalising some seriously damaged locks. When I went into the salon I hadn’t had a cut in eight months, and my ends were in dire need of some TLC. Just an hour later I left with silky soft ends, and a reminder to book a damn haircut, ASAP!

But back to No.7 Bonding Oil, which I was sent home to play with after my session. A completely weightless reparative styling oil, it was created to dramatically increase shine, softness and colour vibrancy. Another first-of-its-kind when it comes to hair repair, the a highly concentrated reparative styling oil offers heat protection of up to 230°C whilst minimising flyaways and frizz.
Light and golden in colour, it is designed to be used on damp or dry hair, and a little goes a verrrrry long way. My stylist, Sean showed me a method of “patting” it into my hair before smoothing it through, and I’ve used it that way with every wash ever since. I love that strengthens and protects hair structure, softens and detangles, as well as shortening drying time – a bonus in particular during the winter months.
Formulated with the same bond repairing chemistry as the existing Olaplex range, No.7 Bonding Oil works for all hair types and textures and can be used in conjunction with Olaplex No.6 Bond Smoother on coarse and super thick hair for increased shine and softness. Like the rest of the Olaplex range, the luxe new oil is free of silicone, sulphates, phthalates, DEA and aldehydes, and is never tested on animals. No.7 formulation is also completely colour safe, cruelty-free, alcohol free and vegan.
This newbie has proved a godsend for my damaged, post-lockdown hair, and I love the weightless feel, quick absorption and stellar end result. Highly recommended!
