Beauty review: two new Supernatural skin formulas by Emma Lewisham

Local powerhouse Emma Lewisham (above) is a relatively new name in the beauty field, but her eponymous brand is already doing impressive things. In fact, BEYOND impressive things given her ability to crack the Australian market with aplomb during our Level 4 lockdown, and her constant innovation when it comes to creating clean, honest and efficacious skincare that is an unabashed joy to use.
Her first creation was Skin Reset, which she calls the ultimate 'hero' serum for an even, glowing complexion. Made using 24 of the world's most active natural ingredients, it is clinically proven to be as effective as anything else out there when it comes to repairing and preventing hyperpigmentation, in the kindest way possible. In addition, Emma has also created Skin Shield SPF 30 – a broad spectrum sunscreen that meets the highest of international testing standards and plays well on its own and with makeup.
I was introduced to the brand at a beautiful launch back in the days when things like that were still de rigueur, and fell in love with Skin ReSet from the get go. I only just ran out of my original bottle and feel like my skin is missing it already, and the Skin Shield also became one of my go-to’s after I started using it on Emma’s recommendation a month ago. I could go on forever about how much I loved using Skin ReSet, but I’m here to talk about two equally as exciting new releases from the preternaturally elegant Emma, who told me about them over coffee a few weeks ago and got me excited about skincare and its infinite possibilities all over again.
The two innovative product additions to the 100 per cent natural, high-performing Emma Lewisham family are the Supernatural 72-Hour Hydration Crème and the Supernatural Triple Retinol A+ Face Oil. Emma and her team dedicated two years of product research and development before they set about launching them, and the care and time that has been invested in getting each formula exactly right is immediately obvious.

Being an out and proud face oil fanatic, the first I tried was the Supernatural Triple Retinol A+ Face Oil (above), which has as its key player a 100 per cent natural vitamin A derivative formulated with Bakuchiol. A green- tech innovation that is popping up in new product formulations all the time, Bakuchiol is a gentle form of vitamin A that has proven in many studies to be as efficacious as synthetic forms of retinol in building cell walls and plumping the skin’s tone and texture. However it does all this without the negative chemical symptoms, such as irritation, dryness and redness. Also in this heady brew is a proprietary extract from the Citrullus lanatus plant, a natural, innovative oil that increases the synthesis of youth proteins. This extract works to future-proof the skin as it reactivates youth proteins to restart cellular activity and re-densify the epidermis – what we all need as the years roll on. I love the feel of this oil so much, especially the fact that a little goes a long way and effortlessly melts into the skin. It hasn’t reacted at all with my rosacea issues either, which is such a joy when there are just so many active products that sufferers like me can’t use on a regular basis. Oh and last but by no means least, due to Retinol Face Oil’s natural properties, it’s safe for all skin types to use, at every stage of life, including pregnant and breastfeeding women – unlike chemical forms of vitamin A.

The second product is the absolutely delicious Supernatural 72-Hour Hydration Crème, which is a super luxe, 100 per cent natural pot of delight that deeply hydrates the skin’s epidermis for over 72-hours. Delivering the benefits of seven anti-ageing products in one Hydration Crème, it is definitely more than the yummy-feeling afterthought that so many hydrating night moisturisers turn out to be. This one actually works for its position in your skincare arsenal thanks to 30 high-performing botanical ingredients, including the innovative green-tech hydration compound, pentavitin and what has been called the most potent, naturally occurring, stable form of vitamin C in the world, Kakadu plum extract. Emma waved lyrical about pentavitin when we met with good reason. Due to its small molecular size, it profoundly penetrates the skin’s epidermis to increase skin hydration tenfold for a plump, dewy, luminous glow that lasts and lasts. Kakadu extract has been around for a while in several Australian natural skincare formulas but never in a product so lush to use, and at such efficacious levels.
Check out Emma’s evening routine on the brand’s Instagram page and just check out the glow that woman is sporting – if that’s not a reason to jump head first into this brand I don’t know what is. Highly recommended, local and completely clean – it doesn’t get much better than that.
