Beauty review: COOLA's Full Spectrum 360° Refreshing Water Mist Sunscreen SPF 18

We have all been seeing a lot sun of late, which for me is a reminder that summer is here and new sunscreen needs to go on the shopping list. Whenever I’ve asked beauty experts – be they dermatologists, makeup artists or cosmetic surgeons – for their pick when it comes to anti-ageing solutions, they all agree that the most important thing you can do to keep your skin looking good well into old age is wear a sunscreen. Daily. No arguments, no forgetting on a cloudy day, no saying, “my olive complexion is a sunblock in itself”! Most last twelve months max after being opened too, so if you’re still got some sitting around in your beach bag or glove box from this time last year then chuck it - ASAP!
One of the best brands on the block when it comes to sun protection IMHO is COOLA, which is the name that I recommend to anyone who asks me advice on sun protection for their whole family. It is produced in limited quantity batches in California (where the company is based), meaning that the range can be reformulated often, taking advantage of new developments in sun science and labelling regulations almost as they happen.
COOLA's latest release that I’ve had a play with is the Full Spectrum 360° Refreshing Water Mist Sunscreen SPF 18, which is a “beauty-enhancing” (according to the brand, and I’ll take it), alcohol-free sunscreen water mist infused with organic aloe and coconut water that helps defend from digital AND environmental pollution. Its formula includes the brand’s Full Spectrum 360° Complex - a proprietary blend of supercharged antioxidants and plant-derived actives that are clinically shown to help mitigate the skin damage from exposure to blue light, infrared, and pollution. The addition of Organic Aloe & Coconut Water for refreshing and hydrating purposes makes it a joy to use, whilst the convenient mist delivery system makes SPF reapplication easy. This is absolutely essential given the product’s SPF18 rating, which means it’s not ideal for a hike or a full day at the beach, but perfect for long lunches and racing from place to place in the lead up to the holidays.
I love that it’s alcohol-free and synthetic fragrance-free, as well as reef-friendly and vegan to boot. Like all sun protection products, make sure to apply this beauty liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure, and reapply after swimming or sweating, immediately after towel drying, and at least every two hours. Oh and shake well beforehand – just to make sure of an even application of the good stuff!
