All about: Dermalogica’s new skin brightening power couple
The antioxidant properties of vitamin C (AKA ascorbic acid) and its role in collagen synthesis make the sunny-hued little beauty a vital molecule for skin health. Dietary and topical ascorbic acid have beneficial effects on skin cells, and some studies have even shown that vitamin C may help prevent and treat ultraviolet (UV)-induced photodamage. To break the news gently: you NEED the stuff on your face, as well as in your diet. Lucky for us there’s some clever skincare brands doing unique things with it, and formulas to suit every skin.
Back in 2018 Dermalogica launched the now-iconic BioLumin-C Serum, a super duper stable and bioavailable, potent Vitamin C formula to help both reduce and prevent fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation and loss of elasticity. So what does ‘bioavailable mean?’ you may well ask? Well, many topical Vitamin C products contain unstable ingredients that lose efficacy before they're even applied to the skin, or on application. BioLumin-C Serum doesn't talk about the percentage of Vitamin C within the formula, as this doesn't mean anything if it isn't stable or bioavailable. Instead, the high-performance serum works with skin’s own defences to brighten and firm. Advanced bio-technology – the kind of innovation we’ve come to associate with the brand - fuses ultra-stable Vitamin C and Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5, helping to dramatically reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Delivering more Vitamin C into skin, it outperforms many other Vitamin C products (including those formulated at higher concentrations) due to its clever make up.
Now, building on the success of award-winning BioLumin-C Serum, Dermalogica’s BioLumin-C range is expanding with the arrival of BioLumin-C Gel Moisturiser - a weightless, Vitamin C-rich gel formula that works to help strengthen skin’s moisture barrier and deliver immediate, glowing results. The formula utilises biotechnology- boosted Vitamin C with re-activation technology, improved potency, and penetration-enhancing ingredients.
Caroline Parker, Head of Education for Dermalogica New Zealand says, “Most people don’t know the key to consistently brighter skin is a combination of exfoliation, addressing uneven skin tone, and more importantly hydration. Many people struggling with dull skin focus solely on exfoliation and evening skin tone – missing out on the brightening benefits of hydration. For this very reason we are incredibly excited to introduce this supercharged daily gel moisturiser to the popular BioLumin-C Range. When you combine proper hydration with the benefits of Vitamin C, the result is noticeably brighter more radiant skin.”
BioLumin-C Gel Moisturiser’s antioxidant-rich formula helps to combat free radical damage with Vitamin C and delivers instant luminosity – so that you can actually “hydrate brighter” – I love that phrase! Key ingredients include the mighty Squalane and five different types of Hyaluronic Acid, along with Verbascum Thapsus Extract AKA the Bioluminescence Flower. This natural extract harnesses the energy from light rays and turns it into visible light, creating instant luminosity.
Secondly, Dermalogica has released its new Daily Glycolic Cleanser as the perfect prep step for any routine, a formula that is also super efficacious when used in conjunction with the BioLumin-C collection. The gentle yet effective cleansing formula works to unglue and cleanse away brightness blockers that build up on skin daily while maintaining the skin’s moisture barrier, and key notes include Glycolic Acid - the most potent Alpha Hydroxy (AHA) – along with Calendula Extract to visibly calm and soothe skin and Jojoba Seed Oil to help preserve the skin’s moisture barrier.
The Daily Glycolic Cleanser (RRP $67 to $104) and BioLumin-C Gel Moisturiser (50mL bottle for RRP $119) land this Friday at authorised Dermalogica Skin Centres, Department Stores, Life Pharmacies and online.
