Beauty review: Sans (ceuticals) Superdose Sleep Infusion Masque
Sans (ceuticals) is the work of blonde powerhouse Lucy Vincent, whose fresh, uncontrived approach to hair and beauty has made her an icon in New Zealand and globally. Over ten years ago she created the brand, which is a specialist collection of hair and body products that has slowly but surely been going on to conquer the world. Their formulations are pure and clean, with each ingredient highly considered. This means that as well as being simply gorgeous to use, they are as high performance as they get. The active ingredients in each offering are dialled up to really high levels to work on cellular health as well as skin and hair structure, and I for one can’t get enough.
The collection contains no artificial chemicals – only sustainably harvested, natural ingredients and organic wherever possible - and in line with the name (Sans is French for ‘without’), is pure, clean and without any unnecessary or harmful ingredients. For Lucy, the ingredient deck is king, and the brand is always one step ahead of the curve in embracing new high performance wonders that are as safe as they are efficacious.
Her latest release is destined to be a key player in the next wave in cosmetic science: anti-inflammatory skincare. Ongoing low-grade inflammation is a key factor in skin surface decline and loss of structural resilience, and an issue that pretty much everyone I know experiences at some point. At higher levels it manifests as the like of rosacea and eczema (both of which I know WAY too much about), and in times of stress like right now it’s particularly evident.
First up, Mamaku. A key cause of irritation is dehydration. Mamaku has an outstanding ability to rapidly hydrate and hold moisture in the skin, and also possesses outstanding antioxidant and antipollution properties. Native New Zealand Red Algae extract comes next, down-regulating inflammatory activity, calming and de-reddening the skin. Commonly used by Mãori in Rongoa [traditional healing], Kawakawa is included for its high concentrations of bioactive compounds diayangambin, elemicin and myristicin, which possess high levels of anti- inflammatory activity, while vitexin glucoside and elemicin possess antimicrobial activity. Last up, we all know the powers of medical-grade Mãnuka honey, which is highly valued for its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that accelerate natural wound repair to provide outstanding healing properties. Mãnuka honey also works as a humectant, drawing vital moisture into the skin to nourish and restore, and helps balance skin pH levels.
From the moment I first tried a sample of this beauty before it came to market I was hugely excited, it seemed like a solution purpose-built with my skin in mind. It is also ridiculously easy to use, just apply a generous layer to clean, towel-dried skin, covering the face and neck area without rubbing in, around 30 minutes before bed. Allow the masque to fully absorb and actives to infuse overnight, just massage any residual product in prior to sleeping and wake to calm, supple skin.
You can use the masque once or twice a week as a Preventative Program in order to maintain healthy, resilient skin, or as I did when lockdown hit: as a Repair + Recovery Program daily before bed. In extreme cases, you can even apply in the morning too, when skin is highly sensitised or in cases of redness, rashes, bumps, itchy, tightness and dehydration.
Oh and last up, for a dream at-home, pro facial? Pop the brand’s Superdose Luminosity Masque on for five minutes, then Superdose Sleep Infusion Masque overnight. Wake up and glow!
Superdose Sleep Infusion Masque is $75 for a 50ml jar, and available now.
