Hair how to: Ana de Armas at the Golden Globes 2023 by Jenny Cho

The Critics’ Choice Awards are officially underway, but I’m still dreaming of some of the killer beauty looks sported by stars of the big and small screen at last week’s Golden Globes. In particular Ana de Armas, who turned to Louis Vuitton and Old Hollywood glam for the night and will be forever pinned to mood boards with the caption ‘dream date night beauty’.
The ambassador for the fashion house walked the red carpet in strapless, bejewelled black LV gown with a train, and she teamed the look with diamond earrings and a diamond-and-emerald bracelet from the Louis Vuitton high jewellery collection.
For glam, hairstylist Jenny Cho kept the actress' hair sleek using Sol de Janeiro hair products and Dyson tools. She shared that she wanted to "complement" de Armas' structured gown by creating "a soft face-framing style”. And as for her makeup moment, pro Melanie Inglessis de Armas' shared, "I wanted Ana to look effortless; a combination of the modern woman that she is mixed with old Hollywood glamour, inspired by Marilyn Monroe. We wanted her skin to be luminous, complemented by a sharp cat eye and a perfectly stained rosy-mauve lip." That mauve lip comes from the from the not-yet-released Estée Lauder Pure Color Lipstick Collection, which launches in early February with more than 80 shades. As Estée Lauder Global Brand Ambassador, de Armas is the first to unveil and wear the shade, which is set to fly off the shelves.
But back to Cho’s hair look, which is indeed perfect for a night out and surprisingly easy to re-create. In the super stylist's own words...

1. On towel dried hair, I prepped the hair by misting Sol de Janeiro Milky Leave-in Conditioner all over. For a rainy day, this leave-in conditioner was the perfect prep spray to combat humidity. I focused on the mid shaft through the ends to detangle, hydrate the strands, fight frizz and to protect Ana’s hair from the heat.

2. Next, I parted the hair in the centre with a tail comb, then blew out the hair with a Dyson SupersonicTM hair dryer professional edition and a large round brush for a bouncy blowout. I love how fast the Supersonic TMhair dryer dries the hair, leaving hair silky and shiny. The Smoothing Nozzle attachment ($59.00) is so precise. You have full control of the air and the heat flow.

3. Once the hair was completely dried, I took an inch thick section across the nape. I used the Dyson CorraleTM straightener ($749.00) to create my big loose bend and worked my way up around the front of the hair.

4. I gently ran a drop of Sol de Janeiro Glossy Nourishing Hair Oil all over the waves allowing the babaçu oil to moisturise and block out frizz-causing humidity. The Brazil nut oil helps protect strands from breaking and the capuaçu butter adds extra shine to finish the look.
