Great hair + self-care, meet the Chloe Zara Scalp Facial
We could all do with a bit of everyday luxury in our lives, and for me, that mainly comes in the form of beautiful, clean and luscious skincare and haircare that feels like a dream whilst doing zero harm to me or the planet.
One of my go-to brands since it first launched is Chloe Zara Hair, which takes luxe, natural haircare and elevates it to incredible new levels. The collection is the work of award-winning Auckland hairstylist Chloe, who I met around 15 years ago when she regularly delivered a killer colour and blow wave at Stephen Marr in Ponsonby. Since then she’s embarked on her own, including creating a haircare collection that has seriously disrupted the industry thanks to its stellar results.
The collection is comprised of everyday essentials and some nourishing styling products, as well as a luxurious Hair Perfume that I fell hard for – and now can’t leave home without. It has the most incredible earthy, spicy scent of saffron, pineapple, fig and sandalwood created in Grasse – and literally turns my often-tortured locks to silk.
Chloe truly cares for hair and understands the juggle of modern life, as well as the value of taking little self-care moments whenever and wherever we can. Which brings me to her signature scalp facial – a new hair experience designed to nourish and nurture. A next-generation treatment that mimics a skin facial in its deep cleansing, exfoliating and moisturising process for the scalp, it boasts a range benefits for hair and scalp health.
Using the same principles of face care, and dubbed by the industry, the ‘skinifcation of haircare’, the Chloe Zara scalp facial uses similar steps to skincare – exfoliation, hydration, nourishment and protection. Just like the pores on our skin, if hair follicles are clogged and irritated, they can't function properly and can’t promote healthy hair growth.
“As a hairstylist I would often see scalp issues arise, particularly during the change of season or due to product build up,” Chloe says. “I struggled to find an effective natural treatment that focused on this specifically. I began using the Silk Hair Balm paired with the Hair and Body Perfume Oil and noticed that not only did this soothe scalp irritation, inflammation and nourish a dry scalp, it was hugely beneficial for the overall health of the hair by keeping the hair follicles unclogged and geared for healthy strong hair growth .”
The Chloe Zara scalp facial regimen is comprised of the Silk Hair Balm and Hair Oil, with ingredients commonly found in quality skincare such as Cacay Seed Oil, Kakadu Plum, Murumuru Seed Butter, Sweet Almond Oil and Aloe Vera. These are rich in vitamins and essential fatty acids that focus on building the overall health of the hair and scalp, reducing product build up, hydrating and nourishing the scalp and hair resulting in long lasting benefits.
The Chloe Zara Scalp Facial is designed to be used at home, using a few simple steps in 30 minutes, and can be done, regularly. The treatment starts by combining the Chloe Zara Silk Hair Balm and Hair & Body Perfume Oil and evenly applying to the scalp and hair. You then spend about three to five minutes massaging the product into the scalp to soften skin cells, exfoliate, and remove excess debris to encourage blood flow. The hair mask can be left on for 30 minutes, rinsed, and followed by your normal hair wash routine.
Chloe recommends integrating a scalp facial into your hair routine once a month to promote healthy and strong hair, saying: “Healthy, strong hair begins with a healthy scalp. By creating a haircare routine that truly nourishes your hair and scalp will result in long term results of hair that is more manageable, stronger, thicker and shiner.”
The Chloe Zara Scalp Facial Kit, $185, is available now and comes with the Chloe Zara Silk Hair Balm, Hair & Body Perfume Oil, and chic Everyday Comb.
