Met Gala 2023 hair how to: Kim Kardashian by Chris Appleton
After breaking the internet last year with her Met Gala ode to Marilyn Monroe (including controversially wearing the icon’s own dress), we all wanted to know what Kim Kardashian was going to pull out of the bag for 2023. This year, The Skims mogul made a splash on the red carpet clad in a Schiaparelli Haute Couture look comprised of a blush satin corset and over 50,000 freshwater pearls. Kim’s ensemble reportedly took a dozen artisans over 1,000 hours to create as each individual pearl strand was strung and draped directly on her body, further reinforcing that the woman clearly doesn’t do things by halves!
To complement her Schiaparelli ensemble, the A-lister’s close friend and hairdresser, Chris Appleton (fresh from his Vegas wedding where KK officiated) created a super flattering updo, clearly reminiscent of the hairstyle closely associated with another famous Hollywood blonde – Pamela Anderson.
Keen to recreated the look for your next evening out? I’ve got you, with all of the details from Chris outlined below…
1. To create Kim K’s effortlessly chic look, Chris started off by prepping her hair with Color Wow Dream Coat Supernatural Spray to ensure hair was ultra-smooth, glossy and frizz free.
2. For maximum volume, he used the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer Professional Edition with the Styling Concentrator attachment on the third setting of 176 for a controlled airflow, paired with Color Wow Raise the Root throughout the root area while blow drying in the opposite direction.
3. Appleton then used the Dyson Corrale Hair Straightener section by section at 365 setting, wrapping the hair around the iron to create curls while polishing the fringe in front that is left out.
4. Once all the hair was curled, he sprayed a texturising spray throughout for additional volume and memory.
5. Without brushing the curls out, Chris put the hair up into a modern-day French twist leaving out hair at the top and side fringe. Lastly, he used hairspray for a finishing touch, ensuring a look that lasts.
