Beauty news: unveiling KATE SYLVESTER X ALEPH BEAUTY's 'Gloria'

The go-to for pin up girls, screen stars and Parisennes for decades, a delicious slick of red lipstick is the timeless weapon of choice for the femme fatale, and with good reason. Scientists at Manchester University have used eye-tracking software to prove that men are hopelessly drawn to a bright red mouth. When shown photographs of a women for 10 seconds each, men spent 7.3 seconds looking at red lips compared to only 0.95 seconds on the eyes. Pink lipstick held the gaze for just 6.7 seconds.
A perfect red lipstick is something every woman needs in her arsenal, and once she’s experienced her power its purchase will be something she will never forget. Like the little black dress of beauty, it's absolutely timeless, and finding the right fit for you may well be your makeup holy grail.

Designer Kate Sylvester and Aleph founder, Emma Peters

Which brings me to a new collaboration that has delivered a beautiful new shade of red, created by two of Aotearoa’s most inspiring creators. Balancing the glamour of Gloria Vanderbilt and the irreverent effortlessness of Gloria Steinem, designed Kate Sylvester has collaborated with all-good beauty brand Aleph to create the Gloria Cheek/Lip tint.
The collaboration was born out of the partnership that developed through working together for the Kate Sylvester Fashion Week show in 2023. Initially drawn to the shared values of mindfulness and sustainability, Kate Sylvester appreciated that Aleph is transparent about every ingredient, as a clean makeup brand with skincare benefits.

Named after the AW24 collection muses Steinem and Vanderbilt, the Gloria Cheek/Lip Tint blend is billed as “the perfect red with an unexpected pop of orange”. The colour is strong, energetic, and engaging, and works with and brightens every skin tone.
“Everyone who knows me knows I love red lipstick,” says Kate Sylvester. “I wear it almost like armour when I need to step up to a challenge. Putting it on feels like a daily ritual where I can be ready to take on the day.”
Evoking an independent spirit, this collaboration epitomises the glorious, gritty glamour of ‘70s New York and celebrates the determination of two strong, artistic women and how they made their mark. I haven’t tried this beauty myself but knowing the creative talents of Kate and Aleph founder, Emma Peters, it is destined to be a winner.

Launching today, the collaboration is available via Kate Sylvester stores and online here, and at Aleph Beauty.
