Red carpet hair how to: Olivia Rodrigo at the Grammys by Clayton Hawkins for Dyson
In vintage Versace, Olivia Rodrigo absolutely nailed a modern take on old Hollywood glamour at the 66th annual GRAMMY® Awards this week, with everyone her glam team most definitely understanding the assignment.
The focal point of Olivia Rodrigo's look was undoubtedly her ombré red lip, which is a look that's easy to achieve—just use a deep red lip liner to outline your lips and a lighter red gloss on top. Et voilà! Her hair look is also something many of us would love to rock to our next event, and I’ve got the lowdown from her hair stylist, Clayton Hawkins on how exactly to achieve it.
“For Olivia’s Grammys glam, we wanted to do something classic that would stand the test of time,” says Clayton. “Olivia is known for her long cascading waves, but today we just wanted to amp it up in an old Hollywood direction.”
And now for how to recreate that show stopping look, step by step…
1. Clayton started by applying a volumising mousse to Olivia’s wet hair (specifically her roots) and then began to blow dry her hair using the Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer Professional Edition and the professional styling concentrator attachment on medium heat and airflow settings. As a talkative hairstylist, Clayton loves how quiet this blowdryer is.
2. Once the hair was fully dry and smooth, Clayton used the Dyson Airwrap™Multi-styler with the 1.2 inch Airwrap™ long barrel attachment on medium heat and airflow settings to blowout and curl Olivia’s mohawk section for added volume, and then set the hair in a velcro roller going away from the face.
3. Next, Clayton concentrated on waving Olivia’s hair using the Dyson Corrale™ hair straightener on the medium heat setting. He waved her hair in a uniform formation going away from the face.
4. After each section, Clayton sprayed a generous amount of extra hold hairspray. Once all of the hair was waved, he let down the velcro roller and brushed out all of the hair using a wide tooth comb. Clayton’s pro tip for achieving Olivia’s old Hollywood style is to keep brushing the hair.
5. Lastly, Clayton eschewed her normal centre part and went for a gorgeous side part. The result was classic, beautiful, and very Olivia.
