Beauty review: Kosas BB Burst Tinted Gel Cream

Touted by many US-based beauty editors as the “Best ‘No-Makeup Makeup’ Tinted Moisturizer Yet”, the arrival of Kosas BB Burst Tinted Gel Cream was always going to get me excited. When some samples arrived for me to play with thanks to Team MECCA, they went straight to the top of my ‘must try’ list and yep – I’m obsessed.
Since launching in 2015, the Kosas brand has gained a cult following, mainly for their viral products like the Air Brow Lifting Treatment Gel and kick arse Revealer Concealer, both of which are never not in my kit. Which goes to say: I’m a major Kosas stan, and could not wait to get my hands on the new release and give it a decent whirl.

Essentially, Kosas BB Burst Tinted Gel Cream is a ‘your skin but better’ product - a hydrating tinted gel cream with a light buildable coverage and an almost soft focus, natural finish. Kosas call it a new take on tinted moisturiser, formulated with active ingredients like copper peptides, zinc and hyaluronic acid to leave your skin feeling smooth and plump, and to help reduce the appearance of redness.
Super lightweight, the BB Burst is a gel-cream formula that hydrates with ingredients like the aforementioned collagen-boosting copper peptides, smoothing saccharide isomerate, moisture-retaining sodium PCA, and calming zinc oxide. It’s basically a hybrid of skincare benefits combined with the pigment and high-performance makeup, and the 24- strong shade range includes light, medium, medium deep, and deep skin tones with cool, neutral, warm, and olive undertones. Described by the brand as “my skin with a little extra,” the BB Burst promises buildable coverage with a smooth and natural finish, and it most definitely delivers.

I used two pumps for my first trial, which most reviewers seemed to recommend for a no-makeup look. The formula is so delicate that it looked like my face was bare, but it with the right amount of colour-correcting coverage to smooth and blur pores for an elevated, weekend makeup base. With a beautiful, natural finish and a shade that perfectly matches my skin tone, it feels more like a second skin than product, and I have worn it alone for a no-makeup makeup look and with concealer and setting powder (both Kosas, naturally) for a full face. Every time I have worn it I have been so impressed that it lasts all day long—without oxidation— and I love that BB Burst comes in a bottle with a pump, which lets you control exactly how much you use. Also: hygienic!
I think that being able to control your coverage will make this little beauty appeal to so many on the makeup spectrum, except perhaps those that love a really full face with heavy coverage. Having said that, I think they will appreciate experimenting with it for a flawless weekend look, which it achieves with aplomb.
Oh and did I mention Kosas BB Burst Tinted Gel Cream is available right now? I suggest you make haste – this beauty comes highly recommended.
