Beauty review: Hourglass Shape & Sculpt Lip Liner
When I heard the new Hourglass Shape & Sculpt Lip Liner collection described as “an ultra-creamy, transfer-resistant lip liner”, I was hooked – and that was before I even popped the cap on some beautiful samples sent my way! To find a pencil that defines, shapes, and sculpts lips for soft matte colour that stays all day is surely the holy grail lip liner, and by golly I think I’ve found it.
Available in a select number of beautiful shades that I’m hoping will grow in time, the new Shape & Sculpt Lip Liners really do let you experience full coverage colour that doesn’t smudge, feather or fade. All too often I’ve tried liners from otherwise-awesome brands that either have zero colour payoff or tug and pull uncomfortably, but with these – neither is an issue.
Infused with nourishing Jojoba Oil, this ultra creamy, highly pigmented lip liner effortlessly glides onto lips without skipping or tugging, allowing for precise application and if you so desire, for seriously creating the effect of much fuller looking lips. Think Sabrina Carpenter’s amped up pout, and then double that if that’s your buzz!
I’ve been using them to line and define my natural shape as well as to fill in my entire lip before applying either a lipstick, gloss or balm for a more intense colour payoff and a variety of end looks. I love that this creamy liner locks in moisture, leaving your lips feeling super-soft and smooth all day long, and the pigment of every shade I have tried has been just magical. It’s also transfer resistant and most definitely passes the “coffee cup test”, and being Hourglass, the formula is also certified by The Vegan Society’s Vegan Trademark.
One hint from me is that if you are living in or traveling to a hot country, keep these liners well away from the heat. I took a couple to Fiji and they worked beautifully, but their emollient quality meant that they softened so quickly that I used a lot more product than was needed. Maybe even pop them in the fridge, I have yet to try that but will come summer!
Now for some artist tips…
TO SHAPE AND SCULPT LIPS:
Choose a shade that’s 1-2 shades deeper than your natural lip colour. Begin at the area of the lip that’s even and match the shape with your lip liner by creating short, soft strokes to balance out. Use this technique for both the top and bottom lip.
TO CREATE FULLER-LOOKING LIPS:
Choose a neutral shade that’s similar to your natural lip colour. Starting from one corner of the lip, use short, soft strokes to gently line right above your natural lip line. Continue this technique until you reach the other corner of the mouth. Repeat for both top and bottom lips.
