Beauty review: the Shark SmoothStyle Heated Comb Straightener + Smoother

And soon our styling prayers were answered – with the release of the all-new SmoothStyle. But first, let’s talk about the product itself, which is essentially a Heated Comb Straightener + Smoother in one that has to be experienced first-hand. Unlike other blow-dry brushes, the SmoothStyle uses a combination of nylon bristles and boar bristles for a strong grip and smooth and shiny results, and it has two modes: Wet Hair Mode and Dry Hair Mode. After being gifted a SmoothStyle a couple of weeks ago, I finally got to put it to the test over the last seven days, and quite frankly, I’m in love. The Wet Hair Mode is going to take a little extra practice I think given the length and weight of my mop, but preliminary plays point to it being a game changer once I nail the technique and allow more time for my wet hair to sit in an absorbent hair towel beforehand. My locks hold onto water like you wouldn’t believe, so I think the correct plan is: wash, towel dry, wrap and then complete my skincare regime and make a coffee before coming back in with the tool.
The Dry Hair Mode has been fantastic from the get go, especially as my hair tends to knot while I sleep and I love to drag out an in-salon blow wave as long as possible. This puts the volume back in and smooths out any flyaways, for flawless and frizz-free even three days after my initial styling session.
I also love that the high performing tool is surprisingly light, which makes drying and styling a breeze even when you have high maintenance hair like mine. Described as “like having a live-in master stylist at your fingertips”, I really have fallen hard for this tool and know it will be an MVP in my kit going forward.
