Beauty news: The Ordinary launches its first (very cute) lip balm

I love a good lip balm, and usually have a veritable smorgasbord of them on the go and dotted around the house, in my car and in multiple handbags. And yes, I need – and use - them all!
The newest little wonder to be added to the mix comes from one of my favourite beauty industry disruptors, The Ordinary. Dubbed “your new emotional support product” and seriously too cute to hide, this newbie brings the brand’s most-loved moisturising ingredients to an all new hydration category — Lip Care.
Called Squalane + Amino Acids Lip Balm because we all know The Ordinary likes to state exactly what it does on the packet, the wee wonder is The Ordinary’s first lip balm which softens and hydrates dry lips through the use of biomimetic amino acids and Squalane. As an added bonus that I love, it can also be applied to your cuticles (yes!) and elbows, offering on-the-go hydration wherever and whenever you need it.
The always-innovating brand believes that your skin knows what’s best, which is why this formulation uses a skin-identical blend of amino acids which mimics the function of the amino acid components of natural moisturising factors (NMF) that are naturally produced within the skin. Amino acids are molecules that hold onto water within the skin, thus aiding with hydration. This works hand in hand with squalane, an oil-like emollient that helps reduce moisture loss and keep lips hydrated.
The blend of amino acids and the ever-popular Squalane, an ingredient found naturally in skin’s sebum, work together to immediately boost hydration, improve the appearance of lip, elbow, and cuticle softness, and improve the appearance of dryness with continued use. The more delicate skin of the lips is likely to lose water more quickly than facial skin, so it’s important to lock in that moisture.
