Fragrance news: Glasshouse Fragrances invites you Into the Woods

Last year I was lucky enough to be invited to Sydney, Australia to preview the 2023 holiday collection from the always insanely innovative Glasshouse Fragrances. Over a mid-winter Christmas lunch we were introduced to the superlative new offering, then sworn to secrecy about the wonders that had been paraded before our eyes. It was such an honour to be invited into the Glasshouse inner sanctum and visit the space where the magic happens, and an intimate dinner with the company’s New York-based founder, Nicole Eckels was most definitely the icing on the cake.
Founded by the truly effervescent Nicole around eighteen years ago, the brand was born from a spark of imagination and a belief in the power of fragrance to transform and elevate the everyday. Their Fireside in Queenstown candle has most definitely been my home’s winter signature scent since its release several years ago, and now a new winter-friendly Glasshouse creation has joined it in elevating my cooler weather days after I was gifted it last week.

Called Sacred Hollow, it joins Woodland Wander to make up Into the Woods, a collection designed to draw you into intriguing fantastical woodlands and immerse you in the magical ambiance of an enchanted forest. Capturing the essence of mystical landscapes, Woodland Wander unveils a mesmerising scent of Rock Rose and Precious Woods, while the second creation, Sacred Hollow, entices with notes of Smoked Oud and Noble Resins.
“These two enchanting fragrances complement each other perfectly, yet each possesses its own unique identity with distinct wintery notes,” says Nicole. “Woodland Wander has a base of Ambergris, Cedarwood, and Musk, and will ignite your senses and help you unwind from the pressures of modern life. Whereas Sacred Hollow combines Frankincense, Pinecone, and Cinnamon Leaf, with Leather, Smoked Vetiver, and Cypress, and it draws you deeper into this majestic woods where fireflies hover and glowworms illuminate like lanterns.”
As whimsical as the fragrances within, the truly beautiful vessels the candle are poured into bring the enchantment of the woods to life with detailed decals which seamlessly blend the Glasshouse Fragrances logo within, making them a cherished keepsake that most definitely won’t be tossed away once burn time is over.

I have fallen hard for Sacred Hollow, with its evocative top notes of Frankincense, Pinecones, Cinnamon and Leaf Spice and base of Smoky Vetiver, Cypress, Guaiac Wood and Oud. It’s spicy and sexy and so different from anything else in my home fragrance haul, making winter nights much more bearable.
I’ve actually been saving Woodland Wander to first burn in our new house once our upcoming move is done and dusted, although from the description – top notes of Cloves, Ginger and Nutmeg with the likes of Rosewood, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Leather, Cedarwood, Labdanum and Musk – it will be a quick new fave.
