First impressions: Tower 28 Beauty, now at MECCA

In case you have been living under a rock, you’ll know that the all clean, chicly minimalist prestige beauty brand Tower 28 Beauty has finally arrived on Australian and New Zealand shores, and just in time for the summer.
Named after a lifeguard tower in Santa Monica and created by Amy Liu, Tower 28 Beauty says “we like our beauty products the way we like our beaches: clean, full of sunshine, and for everyone” – and it’s in store now thanks to the very kind people at MECCA.

Acknowledging that it’s “never been cooler to be sensitive”, Liu (above) – who has struggled with temperamental skin her entire adult life – set out to make glow-y, ‘It’ girl skin possible (and fun) for all, with derm-approved, high-performance skincare and makeup designed for even the most reactive skin. “Sensitive skin can take so many forms,” says Liu in her bio, “but for me it means eczema. After 15 plus years working as a beauty executive, I was frustrated that my sensitive, problem skin meant I was limited to serious brands that felt clinical – and like someone in a lab coat was selling to me!”
As someone who has struggled with sensitivity since also being an eczema-prone child and young adult and now rosacea-prone, I can most definitely empathise – and love that more and more brands are putting in the hard yards so we can all have a little fun with colour.
I also love the fact that all Tower 28 product packaging is made from post-consumer resin, aka recycled plastic, and that they strive to avoid excess packaging like mirrors, false bottoms, and paper inserts. I love a luxe palette as much as the next person, but also fully acknowledge the toll that the beauty industry in particular is having on our planet.
