Beauty review: Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place 24-Hour Concealer

With my French Croatian heritage, dark under eye circles have always been part of my life. Even as a child I had them, and years of trying to conceal them as I got older made me quite the connoisseur when it came to concealer formulas. I have a veritable wardrobe of them to call on when needed, some performing better in summer than winter, others for after hours as opposed to everyday. So when I learned that Estée Lauder added a concealer to its famous Double Wear line, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to try something new and potentially, add another winning formula to my arsenal.
I was so excited to learn if the Double Wear Stay-in-Place 24-Hour Concealer would deliver on its promise of medium-to-full coverage, a weightless feel, and non-creasing 24-hour wear, that I slicked it on pretty much the moment a tube came across my desk!

The need to know

Estée Lauder’s new Double Wear concealer is a creamy, moisturising formula with a soft-focus, natural matte finish. This concealer promises to be flexible, weightless, and breathable, instantly blurring pores and skin concerns. The 3D doe-foot applicator is intentionally designed for targeted, multi-use applications, and promising 24-hour wear and oil control with no caking, creasing, or streaking, the concealer’s non comedogenic formula is also resistant to water, transfers, sweat, and humidity.
Multipurpose and available in 30 shades, I love that the Double Wear concealer has also been designed to conceal, contour, and even highlight areas of the face, and it really has been created with all skin types in mind. Mature skins like mine will love that it comes with InvisiFlex technology - flexible polymers that can move with your facial expressions – while oily types will appreciate the added micro-silica spheres that absorb sebum to comfortably control oil throughout the day.

How to apply
Since you can use the Double Wear concealer in a few different ways (conceal, highlight, and contour), the brand has recommendations for each application method.
To conceal: Estée Lauder recommends using concealer in the same shade as your foundation for a seamless blend. Use the curved side of the brush on any areas that need extra coverage.
To highlight: The brand encourages using one to two shades lighter than your foundation, applying one to two dots in your desired area before blending well.
To contour: The brand suggests using one to two shades darker than your foundation for shape and dimension. Use the doe-foot applicator to swipe product across your forehead and under your natural cheekbone for a sculpted look, then blend well.

And my verdict

Unsurprisingly given the always-innovating, heritage beauty brand that created it, I love this! Along with a nice, creamy texture, this concealer has a slightly thicker consistency than many and great pigment payoff, which I love. It means a little product goes a long way, and even with my dark circles all I needed was less than half a pea-sized amount – and it blended like a dream, with zero cake-iness and nourishing without being greasy. The soft matte finish will appeal to so many, and I found you don’t even need setting powder as once it’s in place, it really stays in place.
I only have one shade in my kit so haven’t experimented with the contour/highlight options for the formula, but from what I’ve seen online it more than performs on both fronts.
Feeling completely weightless, this concealer lives up to the brand's promise of an oil-controlling but nourishing product that's resistant to water, sweat, and humidity and delivers major pigment, and comes with all the longevity I've been looking for in a medium-to-full coverage formula.

On counter now, I highly recommend you give this baby a whirl.
