Beauty review: Murad Multi-Vitamin Clear Coat Broad Spectrum SPF50

Whenever I’ve quizzed beauty experts – be they dermatologists, makeup artists or cosmetic surgeons – for their pick when it comes to skincare that stops premature ageing in its tracks, they all agree that the most important thing you can do to keep your skin looking good well into old age is wear a sunscreen. Daily. No arguments, no forgetting on a cloudy day. Add to that the fact that an estimated 90 per cent of all melanomas in Australasia are caused by direct sunlight, making daily sunscreen use an absolute no brainer.
I like to have a few sunscreen formulas to call on, which I switch in and out depending on how my skin is feeling on the day and/or what the end look is that I want to achieve. Some deliver a dewy finish while others matte things down in the humidity, some come tinted for a glow all their own and others undetectable even on darker skin. The latest I’ve been lucky enough to play with definitely falls into the latter category, and comes from skin health specialists, Murad.
Called Murad Multi-Vitamin Clear Coat Broad Spectrum SPF50 (a mouthful, let’s just go with Clear Coat!), it is a sunscreen that not only protects, but actually improves skin health. Yep, you read that right! As a dermatologist- and pharmacist-founded brand, Murad has been fortifying sunscreens with antioxidants to amplify preventative aging protection for over 30 years, and this new baby was years of R&D in the making.

How does it work?

Powerful vitamins and bio-fermentation technology enrich the seriously clear sunscreen for supercharged preventative ageing protection, and Clear Coat is also beautiful to use. Formulated with a potent cocktail of vitamins C, D, E & F, bio-fermented clary sage technology and omega-packed chia seed, the vitamins in the heady brew work to amplify the protection level vs SPF alone, and ensure supercharged skincare and antioxidant benefits for healthy, happy skin.
I personally love the addition of clever ingredients like omega-packed chia seed to nourish, strengthen and boost skin resilience, because in 2025, we all want our SPF to go the extra mile.

How does it feel?
Applied as the last step in your skincare routine, this beauty glides on like a charm with zero evidence of its presence apart from some serious protection. It has great slip and a slight fragrance that soon disappears, and play wonderfully with makeup.
On that note: if you’re finding that any sunscreen is pilling under makeup, it may not have had a chance to fully absorb before you go in with your foundation or skin tint, so always give your favourite formula a little room to breathe.

How much does it cost?
At $109 for a 50ml tube Clear Coat is on the pricier side, but it’s still a lot less than a premium serum and will do just as much to stop the signs of premature ageing from creeping in – if not more. It’s sold out multiple times over so I’m thinking many agree with me that it’s an investment in the future health of your skin – and worth every penny.

Murad Multi-Vitamin Clear Coat Broad Spectrum SPF50 is available now (be quick!) and comes highly recommended.
