Beauty review: Trinny London’s The Elevator Neck + Décolleté Concentrate
I’m a big believer in skincare for your neck and décolletage, and thankfully I’m not alone. As beauty industry guru, Caroline Hirons famously said: “Take it to the tits. Your face doesn’t end at your chin in skincare,” a fact that the French have been aware of for years.
Neck care might feel like just another thing you're being told you have to do, but truth is, our necks have been copping it for decades - mine included. Often, we don't realise how much we've neglected something until we look back on it with hindsight. The neck and décolletage area is one of those things, because it's a part of the body that is exposed to a lot of UV, resulting in damage from years of cumulative sun exposure.
The skin on your neck is also thinner and a little more sensitive than the skin on your face. You won’t find as much collagen on your neck either, and the skin can become dehydrated as it contains less sebaceous glands that secrete oil. These things combined with gravity and incidental sun exposure explain why the neck area can have a prematurely aged or sagging appearance, and is extremely prone to pigmentation, fines lines and wrinkles.
Bringing your skincare down to your neck (and below) is good, but a targeted approach is better. And yes, that means a separate neck-centric product if you’re serious about stopping premature ageing in its tracks.
Meet The Elevator
One of the latest formulas I’ve tried to rejuvenate my neck comes courtesy of modern beauty juggernaut Trinny London, and goes by the name The Elevator Neck + Décolleté Concentrate. It's neither a moisturiser nor a serum, but rather a ‘concentrate’ – a third category that this skincare nerd is very excited about. As the name suggests, concentrates tend to contain a higher concentration of active ingredients than other skincare products – and they deliver these high-potency active ingredients in a rich, nourishing formula to address stubborn concerns in specific areas. The brand says to think of them as “your specialised team of skincare experts”, and in essence, a concentrate enables you to experience the benefits of a serum and a moisturiser in one powerful, targeted formula.
How It Works
The Elevator makes some serious claims, but also has some serious ingredients in the formula to back them up. These are chosen for several reasons, and serve several key purposes:
To help lift sagging skin – the product’s cohesion technology draws its power from the Isodon Japonicus plant (which grows up to an impressive two metres without feeling the effects of gravity) and works to strengthen the ‘glue’ holding the skin layers together.
To firm and restructure - decapeptides focus on organising loosened dermal fibres, filling in any gaps and giving skin its structure back.
To smooths fine lines and crepey skin - Oligo + nonapeptides rebuild the skin’s own scaffolding and boost collagen production to restore lost volume.
To visibly fade age spots - Encapsulated alpha arbutin slows the production of melanin, preventing age spots from forming and darkening.
Does it work?
A gravity-fighting concentrate that aims to lift, smooth and re-sculpt the skin on your neck, jawline and décolleté while reducing the effects and appearance of sun damage, I’ve been using The Elevator for four weeks now and yep, I’m impressed.
On the brand’s recommendation I’ve committed to twice daily application using an upward movement with my hands, and while still looking like an almost-53 year old woman’s neck, it is significantly less lined, has a more even tone overall and even my pigmentation has begun to fade. In the interests of future-proofing, after my AM application I always take my SPF50 down my neck and onto my décolleté, and when I have a little extra time in the evenings I really take some time to massage the formula into my neck.
The takeaway
In conclusion, I’m seriously in love with The Elevator. I’ve used other neck-specific formulas (including injectables) in the past that have most definitely softened and hydrated, but this baby really has made a significant difference in a relatively short amount of time and I am HERE for it. I’m also excited for the results to continue to evolve over time, especially when it comes to an area I had all but given up on.
If you are keen to explore what The Elevator can do for you, it’s available now and comes highly recommended.
